Lydia

Where money began.

A kingdom around Sardis, in today's Manisa. It is credited with the first coins, it had a river that carried gold, and Ovid put the best weaver of all here.

3 Strike a Lydian coin

Front · lion's head
Back · punch marks

Lydian electrum came out of the river, so its gold content varied. Set the mix, then strike: the front gets its design, the back keeps the marks of the punch.

Colours and proportions are illustrative, not measured from real coins.
